Our Time Theatre Company's Sixth Annual Benefit Gala, Lean On Me
On Monday, April 14, 2008 Our Time Theatre Company held its Sixth Annual Benefit Gala, Lean On Me, to honor musical legend Bill Withers. The evening was filled with a star-studded cast of musicians and TV, film, and Broadway actors, including: Lauren Ambrose, Talia Balsam, Howard Bingham, Nadia Dajani, Ned Eisenberg, Kathryn Grody, Daryl Hall, Adriane Lenox, Tiffany McElroy, Jesse L. Martin, Mandy Patinkin, Rosie Perez, Ramon Rodriguez, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Ed Sherin, John Slattery, Mary Testa, Callie Thorne, Sam Waterston, Bill Withers, Kori Withers, the cast of Spring Awakening, and the young people of Our Time.
Patrons enjoyed a cocktail hour starting at 6pm, followed by a 7pm performance at NYU's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. Mr. Withers delivered a heartfelt and moving acceptance speech, and Daryl Hall (Hall and Oates) joined Mr. Withers and the entire performance cast with a room-shaking finale of Mr. Withers' song, "Lean On Me" (see photo below). The evening was concluded with a dinner at NYU's lovely Rosenthal Pavilion. Diners were captivated by Artistic Director Taro Alexander's hidden talent as a live auctioneer. In total, this event helped Our Time to raise over $250,000. Our Time sends a huge THANK YOU to all of those who contributed to make this evening such a success.
